Mauricio Pochettino next club odds: Real Madrid current favourites ahead of Spurs and Man Utd | The Sun

REAL MADRID are the bookies’ favourites to be the next club managed by Mauricio Pochettino.

The former Tottenham boss is set to leave the French side.

The 50-year-old has won a league title and a French Cup in his year and a half in charge, but has been unable to achieve the Champions League success he was tasked with.

The Parisians were knocked out by Real Madrid in the second round of the 2021-22 competition after conceding three goals in 17 second half minutes at the Bernabeu in the second leg.

Having signed the likes of Lionel Messi, Sergio Ramos, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Achraf Hakimi, Georginio Wijnaldum and Nuno Mendes last summer, Pochettino was expected to get more out of his squad in Europe this season than just a second round exit.

The Argentine had previously enjoyed successful spells in England with Southampton and Tottenham, taking the latter to a Champions League final for the first time in their history.

Real Madrid are currently the favourites to be the next club to hire Pochettino, though their current manager Carlo Ancelotti currently has two years left on his contract, having joined from Everton last summer.

However, the Italian hasn’t spent more than two seasons in the same job since leaving AC Milan in 2009, and Real Madrid are known to be notoriously cut-throat with their managers.

Betfair odds

  • Real Madrid – 6/4
  • Tottenham – 4/1
  • Athletic Bilbao – 6/1
  • Argentina – 8/1
  • Juventus – 10/1
  • Manchester United – 12/1

Pochettino is also being linked with a move back to Spurs, where enjoyed more than five successful years with the club, establishing the North London club as a genuine top four club.

Betfair are offering 4/1 for a return to Spurs to be the Argentine’s next club.

Athletic Bilbao are another club touted with the potential hiring of Pochettino, with 6/1 odds with Betfair.

The Basque club finished eighth in La Liga last season, and reached the semi finals of the Copa del Rey and finished runners up in the Supercopa de Espana.

Pochettino represented Argentina on 20 occasions as a player, and is linked with the managerial job for the current Copa America champions.

Lionel Scaloni is the current manager, and has delivered the nation’s first two titles since the early 1990s, following the Copa America success with the CONMEBOL-UEFA Cup of Champions earlier in the month.

His current contract runs out after the Qatar World Cup in December, so La Albiceleste could be on the hunt for a new manager in the new year.

The likes of Juventus (10/1) and Manchester United (12/1) are also being linked with the Argentinian.
