Manuel Neuer on the brink of signing new Bayern Munich contract – but wants assurances over his spot as No1 – The Sun

MANUEL NEUER is on the brink of signing a new Bayern Munich contract but wants assurances over his status as number one, according to reports.

The German is reportedly close to putting pen to paper but it could scupper any move for Schalke's Alexander Nubel.

The 33-year-old remains one of the world's best goalkeepers and is currently under contract with the Bundesliga champions until 2021.

But Bayern do not want to lose him and have offered him a contract until 2023, according to German outlet Sport1.

Despite the fact Neuer has not missed a single minute of action this season, he still wants assurances he will be number one until the end of the new contract if he signs it.

Bayern have been continually linked with 23-year-old Nubel whose Schalke contract runs until the end of this season.

And Neuer's club are said to have offered Nubel the chance to join them on a free in the summer.

But the news of Neuer's demands may affect the Nubel move as the Schalke stopper is understood to prefer to stay put if he is not going to play at Bayern.

Schalke have offered Nubel a new deal that runs until 2024 which he is likely to sign if Neuer also puts pen to paper.

Given Neuer's role as club captain and his 358 appearances since his own move from Schalke in 2011, he is likely to be granted his wish of guaranteed game time.
