Man Utd star Dean Henderson wanted by Southampton on loan transfer as goalkeeper pleas to be allowed to leave

SOUTHAMPTON have approached Man Utd to sign goalkeeping star Dean Henderson, according to reports.

Henderson, 24, has made it clear he wants first-team experience and Ralf Rangnick revealed he'd asked for a move away from the club.

Football Insider have reported that the Saints have made an enquiry about signing the young shot stopper.

Henderson has not played a minute of Premier League football this season and is apparently sick of being stuck behind David de Gea.

The Spanish goalkeeper has been superb between the posts, under both Ole Gunnar Solksjaer and Rangnick's management.

Henderson meanwhile has been restricted to just 158 minutes of action this season, 90 of which came in the Carabao Cup.

This is a disappointment for the young Englishman who had fought his way onto the team sheet towards the end of last season.

But despite his lack of game time this term, Man Utd and Rangnick want to keep the 24-year-old around.

The Red Devils interim manager said: "A couple of weeks ago he [Henderson] asked me but I told him I’d rather have him stay until the end of the season.

“We are very happy with our goalkeepers but if it’s up to me I wouldn’t want him to leave.

“David is playing well but we have Covid, you can have an injury and we need three top goalkeepers.”

The goalkeeper's contract is ongoing until 2025 and is allegedly worth over £100k-a-week.
