Man Utd 'preparing huge Vinicius Jr transfer offer' in hope Real Madrid star can save their season

MANCHESTER UNITED are preparing a major offer for Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr, according to reports.

The Red Devils are claimed to want a marquee signing after their disastrous start to the season – despite already splurging on three big name transfers in the summer.

United find themselves eighth in the Premier League table, already 12 points behind Chelsea in top spot.

According to El Nacional, they see recruiting Vinicius Jr as the solution.

The Brazilian has been in red-hot form for Madrid this season, already bagging ten goals and seven assists in 18 appearances across all competitions.

United already boast an embarrassment of riches on the wings, including the likes of Jadon Sancho, Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.

But they're claimed to believe that Vinicius Jr would be a huge coup for both the short and long-term.

The 21-year-old is contracted to Real Madrid until 2024.

Club president Florentino Perez has made it a priority to tie him down to a longer deal, with plans to team him up with Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland in the near future.

Interest from England could improve Vinicius's leverage when negotiating his new terms.

It's claimed that he could demand from Madrid whatever Man United would be willing to pay.

He arrived at Santiago Bernabeu from Flamengo back in 2018, when the LaLiga giants paid around £40million to acquire him.

Vinicius has made 136 appearances for Madrid in total, scoring 24 goals and laying on 30 assists – with his output having increased this season.

Man United are set to be managed by Ralf Rangnick for the remainder of the season.

The German, 63, is reported to have agreed a deal to take charge at Old Trafford until the end of the season, while taking a consultancy role.

Reports in Russia claim that he has already arrived in England ahead of the deal.

But he won't be in the dugout for Sunday's trip to Chelsea, due to work permit issues.
