Man Utd and Chelsea in Benjamin Pavard transfer battle as World Cup winner considers Bayern Munich future | The Sun

MANCHESTER UNITED and Chelsea are reportedly in a transfer battle for World Cup winner Benjamin Pavard.

The 26-year-old French international first moved to Germany in 2016 to Stuttgart from Lille in his homeland.

The right-back turned centre-half then landed a switch to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich three years later.

He has won a host of honours during his time there, including the Champions League, but now reports are claiming that he could be on the move.

And L’Équipe is claiming that both United and Chelsea want to bring him to the Premier League.

But the duo face some stiff competition from across Europe, with Juventus and Atletico Madrid also monitoring the situation.

Pavard still has two years remaining on his contract but is considering his future after “undergoing difficult spells” recently.

The report notes that both his “mind and performances” were affected due to the Covid-19 pandemic which left him unable to see his family.

And he also allegedly wants to play consistently in central defence after spending the majority of his time at Bayern playing his unfavoured full-back position.

Meanwhile, Bild’s Christian Falk also offered an update on Pavard.

He tweeted: “Agent Pini Zahavi will help the agents of Benjamin Pavard @FCBayern to sell the defender. That explains the rumours about an alleged interest from Chelsea, as Zahavi is always the first to offer his players there.”

But he also handed United a boost by stating: “@ChelseaFC won’t go for Benjamin Pavard at the moment, the club want to finalise the transfers of Jules Koundé @SevillaFC and Presnel Kimpembe @PSG_inside.

“Including Kalidou Koulibaly, Tuchel would have his new center-backs complete.”
