Man Utd and Bayern Munich blow as transfer target Steven Bergwijn signs new PSV deal – The Sun

MANCHESTER UNITED have suffered a transfer blow as PSV tied-down in-demand Steven Bergwijn to a new long-term deal.

The 21-year-old Dutch international winger has attracted interest from a host of Europe’s top clubs with his performances over the past 12 months.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, Bayern Munich, Ajax and Sevilla were all keen on snapping-up the attacker.

But PSV have managed to ward off those plotting a swoop by convincing him to commit his future to them on a new five-year contract until 2023.

Bergwijn said: “This is the right decision.

“I had other options, but in the end everything has to fit well for me, but also for PSV.

“The result is that I'm staying here, with a lot of joy and confidence.

“That means I'm feeling well here and I'm not done learning.

“I get to play for trophies here and feel very at home in Eindhoven.”

Bergwijn already has already won the Eredivisie three times with PSV.

But he has previously spoken of his intrigue in possibly heading to Old Trafford one day.

He told Goal: “Manchester United are definitely a nice club.

“I am still only 21 and I am in no rush to leave PSV. It would have to be a good club that have a clear plan with me.”
