Lampard confirms Tammy Abraham is playing for Chelsea with an injury after starting him against Leicester – The Sun

FRANK LAMPARD has confirmed striker Tammy Abraham is playing through the pain barrier against Leicester.

The Blues boss revealed his main frontman has a muscle injury but was passed fit enough to lead the line in the race to a top-four finish.

Speaking before the contest, Lampard confirmed: "Sometimes you have to play with a bit of pain.

"He's got a muscle injury you hope he can deal with it.

"We wanted to get him on the pitch and he's trained the last two days."

It will only add to Lampard's frustration after the club failed to do any business during the January transfer window.

Despite having their ban overturned, deals to land striker Edinson Cavani and attacker Dries Mertens collapsed.

Abraham, 22, has scored 13 goals this campaign but the Blues' attack remains threadbare with little faith in Michy Batshuayi and Olivier Giroud.

Revealing his anger at Chelsea's lack of transfers, Lampard said: "We probably become the underdogs and the outsiders because the teams around us have strengthened. It’s a fact.

“Every time I look at the TV, a player has signed for another club.

“Manchester United have signed a world-class player and Sheffield United are making fantastic signings.
