British wildcard Katie Swan has crashed out in the first round at Wimbledon after a three-set defeat to Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk.

The 23-year-old Brit started off brightly by taking the first set, but appeared to struggle with a thigh injury as the match wore on.

Her thigh was heavily taped up and her trainer and doctor both went out on court to see her during the match.

Kostyuk took the second set before getting an early break in the third set which swayed the match in her favour.

Swan, making her fifth appearance at Wimbledon as a wildcard, recovered from a difficult start to claim the opener in a hard-hitting battle against World No 76 Kostyuk.

Swan, ranked 184 in the world and British number six, looked like she might reach the second round when she retrieved a break in the second set to make it 4-4.  

It was then where she began to noticeably wince and called the trainer over after dropping serve in the next game.  

Swan battled on resiliently despite her apparent struggles, and suffered a 4-6 6-4 6-4 defeat.  

Swan had her thigh heavily taped and seemed to struggle as the match began to wore on

Kostyuk looked like she might head to defeat when Swan retrieved a break in the second set

The Ukrainian took the next game and went on to clinch the victory to move to the next round
