Kamaru Usman says Conor McGregor ‘must want to die’ after tweet hinting at UFC welterweight title challenge – The Sun

KAMARU USMAN reckons Conor McGregor "must want to die" after a tweet from the Dubliner suggested a challenge for the UFC welterweight title.

'The Notorious' posted the cryptic tweet on Sunday which appeared to show he was interested in adding the 170lb belt to his previous 145lb and 155lb triumphs.

McGregor is returning to fight in the Octagon for the first time in over a year when he faces 'Cowboy' Donald Cerrone at UFC 246 next month.

And the comeback fight will take place at welterweight, a division that McGregor has only fought at twice before in his UFC career.

But welterweight champ Usman, who successfully defended his title against Colby Covington last weekend, thinks it would be crazy for McGregor to challenge him.

He told TMZ: "He must want to die. You saw what Khabib did to him, it wouldn't even be fair if I fought Conor.

'SIT DOWN LITTLE MAN'

"Much respect to Conor for what he's done for this sport and the way he transcended it but no, this ain't what you want. Sit down, little man. Sit down.

"Learn to walk before you can run because I would hurt that guy."

Usman beat Covington on Saturday night by a fifth round stoppage with the referee stopping the fight with just 50 seconds remaining after Covington had been dropped to the canvas twice.

Covington even fought the last two rounds of the fight with a broken jaw after being caught with a fierce right hand to the face from Usman.

McGregor's move to welterweight for his comeback fight means there are several possibilities for what he might do for the rest of 2020.

Many believe that the jump up in weight is to prepare him for a fight with Jorge Masvidal later in the year.

But UFC President Dana White has come out and said he thinks that would be a bad idea for McGregor – who get's 'p***ed off' at White's assessment.

White said: "He’s like, ‘You think I can’t beat Masvidal’ and that whole thing. I’m not saying you can’t beat Masvidal, anybody can beat anybody on any given day.

“But why? Why go after that fight when you could possibly just wait and get a title shot?"
