Kalvin Phillips edges closer to Man City transfer as Leeds look to sign Romeo Lavia off them as replacement | The Sun

LEEDS are reportedly keen on signing Manchester City starlet Romeo Lavia as a replacement for Etihad-bound Kalvin Phillips.

SunSport reported earlier this month how the Premier League champs were set to contact the Whites over a move for the England ace after he returns from international duty.

It has been stated that City want to wrap up the transfer of Phillips before they head out for their US tour in July.

The 26-year-old is claimed to have told Leeds of his intentions to join Pep Guardiola's squad.

A fee of around £50million is believed to be enough to get a deal over the line.

And Leeds are said to be ready to invest some of that money to prise teenage defensive midfielder Lavia away from City.

According to The Athletic, the Yorkshire outfit are in competition with Southampton for the 18-year-old's services.

The Belgian youth international, who featured twice for City during the 2021-22 campaign, is highly-rated at the Etihad.

Boss Pep Guardiola is reluctant to let him go as it is thought he has what it takes to succeed at the highest-level in the near future.

But the news outlet states that City would be prepared to let him depart for Leeds in the hope it will sweeten a potential deal for Phillips.

As well as Phillips, City are also looking to sign Brighton left-back Marc Cucurella following his impressive first campaign in England.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano tweeted: "Manchester City are now set to submit opening proposal to Brighton for Marc Cucurella.

"First bid ready to proceed in advanced talks in the next days.

"Cucurella is still Man City top target as left-back, Pep Guardiola really wants him. Work in progress."
