Juventus launch 30TH appeal to get Inter Milan stripped of 2006 Serie A title ahead of weekend clash – The Sun

JUVENTUS will be hoping that persistence does pay off… after launching a 30th appeal to see Inter Milan stripped of their 2006 Serie A title.

Italy was rocked with the famous Calciopoli scandal in the mid-2000s that saw teams being accused of selecting favourable referees.

Juventus, AC Milan, Fiorentina, Lazio and Reggina were all involved in a tight network of match fixing by bribing officials.

Under Fabio Capello, the Old Lady lifted the Scudetto in 2006 with AC Milan finishing second.

Juventus lost just one match during the entirety of the season that coincidentally came against Milan.

But after police uncovered the entire operation, Inter were handed the league title after ending the campaign in third.

Juventus were sensationally relegated to Serie B and AC Milan were handed a 30 point deduction.

Not willing to see Inter take the glory, they have launched appeal after appeal against the FIGC's decision to hand their rivals the title.

In fact it has been 29 in total and their 30th appeal comes ahead of their highly-anticipated clash on Sunday.

Their last appeal was turned down in August and it has only fuelled the fierce rivalry between the two sides.

This weekend's clash is set to grab the attention of supporters across Italy with both side's starting the season on fire.

Antonio Conte's Inter, looking for their first league title since 2010, have won each of their six opening matches while Juventus sit two points behind in second.
