Jubilant Ally Pally fans chant ‘darts is coming home’ as Smith wins world title

Jubilant drats fans chanted: "It's coming home," after Michael Smith finally reached the top of the mountain on Tuesday evening.

Bully Boy overcame Michael van Gerwen 7-4 at the Ally Pally to win his first PDC World Championships – after twice finishing second. And as Smith threw his final darts, the Ally Pally erupted into a chorus of the famous football chant.

The crowd were desperate to see the 32-year-old finally fulfil his potential, and after perhaps the greatest leg of darts that has been produced, the crowd were fully on the side of Bully Boy – erupting in cheers when he won.

One fan joked: "I guess it's coming home, it hasn't been home since Phil Taylor had it!"

"It's coming home, it’s coming home, darts is coming home. Michael Smith!!! Amazing," a second added. While a third tweeted: "The crowd at the Ally Pally singing Darts it's Coming Home is brilliant!"

And a fourth added: "Have to say the Ally Pally crowd were quite good tonight, and have been throughout the tournament!"

After the match, Smith said: "Sounds amazing [world champion]. I don’t want to start getting into the crying and emotions.

"Michael let me off there, and for once I finally took a chance I didn’t deserve. I want to apologise to Michael, I’ve been in that position… well not in that position before. I don’t even what to say to you!"
