ITV7 racing tips: £50,000 up for grabs as Templegate reveals picks for day one of Newmarket July Festival

THEY won’t keep up with the Jones in the July Stakes (2.25 Newmarket, nap).

ELDRICKJONES ran a belter when second in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot on just his second start.

A repeat of that would be more than good enough.

Here’s my guide to today’s ITV3 action – which gets underway at 1.30pm and finishes at 4pm, taking in Newmarket and Carlisle.

1.50 Newmarket

MANDOOB takes a hike in class here but he was impressive when winning a Haydock novice contest last time.

He’s well bred, stays strongly and is right at home on decent ground. There’s a lot more to come.

Stowell went close in the Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot and is an improving stayer who looks the main threat.

If the ground eases, Gear Up is a big threat given that he’s a French Group 1 winner in the mud. He wasn’t disgraced at Royal Ascot last time.

Yibir went close in a Goodwood Listed contest when last seen in May and needs a bit more.

2.05 Carlisle

VELOCISTAR went close in decent company at Newbury last week.

She sees out an extended six furlongs in the soft and that stamina will be an asset up Carlisle’s hill.

Fox Hill has followed a Redcar win with two solid Haydock efforts and will be competitive again. She’s 5lb higher than that success so needs her best.

Lady Celia may be a bigger threat after two close placed efforts at Hamilton.

2.25 Newmarket

ELDRICKJONES caught the eye when finishing quickly to nab second in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot.

That was a big improvement on his debut and he can find more.

Ebro River was fifth and should be in the mix for in-form Hugo Palmer. Project Dante was a bit unlucky when third in the Norfolk Stakes and shapes as though this longer trip will suit. Asymmetric and Jadhlaan are both stepping up in class after wins with the former already proven here. This is tougher but they can’t be dismissed.

2.40 Carlisle

OBEE JO put in a really solid effort at Beverley and won't be far away again.

Ella McCain takes the ride and her 5lb claim could come in very handy over the five furlong trip.

Keep an eye out for Captain Vallo though, the Phillip Makin-trained horse who is making handicap debut.

Fair form so far for this maiden but a rating of 65 shows there could be more to come.

Loweswater could build on a credible fourth of 11 on this course and distance 41 days ago.

2.50 Doncaster

ADAAY TO REMEMBER had plenty in hand when scoring at Lingfield last time, scoring by a good distance when quickening over one furlong out.

The Roger Varian-trained Asjad is one from one and could defy a 7lb penalty.

This really looks a battle between the two market leaders but His Pride could score after a long break, should there be big improvement.

3.00 Newmarket

AKKERINGA has his sights raised here but he was impressive when scoring over course and distance 14 days ago.

He goes on any ground and has scope for more improvement in an open race.

Boomshalaa went through the mud when a close second in a Royal Ascot handicap and should relish this extra furlong.

He’s up a fair 3lb with more to offer at this early stage of his career.

Jumby was pitched into the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup after an impressive win on the Rowley Mile.

That was beyond him and this is more his level despite a 9lb hike in the weights. Blackrod went close in good company at York.

3.35 Newmarket

AL AASY looks a cut above these rivals after his close second in the Group 1 Coronation Cup at Epsom.

He relishes this trip and won the Bahrain Trophy at last year’s July meeting so the track is ideal.

Highest Ground didn’t enjoy the really testing ground at Royal Ascot and can hold his own at this level.

Sir Ron Priestley will try to run them ragged from the front and the small field should help that.

He has two modest efforts to put behind him though.
