In series of sentimental tweets, Seattle Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin signals retirement

NFL wide receiver Doug Baldwin signaled his retirement late Sunday in a series of sentimental tweets and a "Game of Thrones" GIF reading, "My watch has ended."
Baldwin had offseason surgeries on his groin and shoulder after an injury-riddled 2018 campaign in which he dealt with injuries to both knees, his elbow, a shoulder and his hip and groin. Then last week his contract was terminated because he failed a physical. ESPN reported that before that, Baldwin was hoping for a return to the gridiron.
Baldwin's tweets appeared to be, in part, a letter to a younger version of himself to punctuate the end of his career.
"Because the end of one journey sees the beginning of another," he tweeted. "And guess what..it will be one hell of a journey. You will feel emotional and physical pain you never knew existed. You will fail over and over again. But don’t worry, all of it will be the reason why you succeed.
"But when the journey finally comes to the end, you will reflect on what that little boy caught between Gulf Breeze and Pensacola really wanted: to be seen and to be loved."

Baldwin had his worst season since 2012, accounting for 618 receiving yards in 2018, but he finished strong. The wide receiver had his best game with 126 yards on seven catches in a December game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Baldwin praised his wife, Tara Sabourin, and thanked teammates and coaches — including former Seahawks teammate Richard Sherman — in the series of grateful tweets.
"You owe a lot to these people," he wrote to himself. "They will stick by your side when your passion turns into anger. When your drive turns into obsession. They will be the poised warriors that you will need by your side."
The next few years will be filled with beautiful memories of close friends you will meet along the way. Friends that will offer their guidance.. pic.twitter.com/4J1LLZirUI
