How old is Gary Lineker, who did the England star play for and is he married?

And he will once again be on stage handing out awards for the Sports Personality of the Year ceremony, alongside Gabby Logan and Clare Balding.

How old is Gary Lineker?

Gary Lineker was born November 30, 1960 in Leicester – meaning he is 58-years-old.

He was given the middle name of Winston, as he shares a birthday with war-time prime minister Churchill.

Lineker was told by his teachers that he focused too much on football and would not make a career out of it – before joining Leicester City's youth academy and the rest is history.

Who did he play for?

After two years in the academy, Lineker made his Leicester City debut on New Year's Day in 1979.

Following over 200 appearances for the Foxes, he headed for Everton – only to move on the following year to Barcelona.

During his three seasons in Spain, Lineker won the Copa del Rey and European Cup Winners' Cup.

A return to England saw him join Tottenham, claiming the FA Cup before ending his career in Japan with Nagoya Grampus Eight.

His club career saw the striker score over 280 goals in nearly 600 appeaances, picking up an astonishing record of never getting a yellow or red card.

But Lineker was more notable for his time with England, earning 80 caps and helping them to the semi-finals of the 1990 World Cup – the last time the Three Lions did until this summer.

Is Gary Lineker married?

The ex-Leciester star has been married twice in his life – firstly to Michelle Cockayne in 1986.

After 20 years and four sons, the pair divorced.

But in September 2009, Lineker married actress and model Danielle Bux, 19 years his junior.

Yet, they too separated as the former footballer did not want any more children.
