How Giants are handling their virtual NFL Draft 2020 prep

The Giants are moving forward with their draft preparation with all their coaches, scouts and front office executives scattered across the country. Meetings are held via video conferencing, with as many as 15-20 participants at a time.

For the first time, there is no physical draft board situated at the team facility. The board this year is virtual and maintained by the Giants’ Information Technology department.

In lieu of visits from draft prospects — teams normally are allowed to bring 30 players into their facility, but not amid social distancing guidelines — the Giants are conducting video-conferencing interviews via FaceTime, Zoom and Skype.

None of this could work without the expertise of Justin Warren, the team’s vice president of information technology, and Ty Siam, head of football operations/data analytics. The greatest challenge is an obvious one: Communicating and coordinating without the face-to-face contact of everyone being in the same room together.

General manager Dave Gettleman is coordinating these efforts from his home, with the assistance of Chris Pettitt, the director of college scouting, Warren and Siam.
