Heat’s Hassan Whiteside abruptly leaves bench, walks to locker room in fourth quarter
Miami Heat center Hassan Whiteside decided he had enough in his team's 105-90 home loss to the Orlando Magic on Tuesday night.
So the 7-footer opted to leave the game early.
After sitting the entire fourth quarter, Whiteside left the bench and headed straight for the locker room at American Airlines Arena by himself with 40.5 seconds left in the game.
The Magic made a three-pointer, the Heat turned over the ball and fouled on the fastbreak. Then, Whiteside left.
Whiteside has sat out the fourth quarter in five of the last six games.
Heat coach Erik Spoelstra told reporters after the game that he hadn't received an explanation from Whiteside, but had an idea why he left.
"Probably extremely upset like we all are," said Spoelstra, whose team dropped to 9-14. The Heat have lost nine of their last 13 games heading into a six-game road trip.
