Headache for trainer Hughie Morrison with Telecaster plans set to suffer due to travel restrictions

TRAVEL plans are still causing headaches for trainers with Hughie Morrison the latest to suffer with stable star Telecaster.

After his comeback win in France, the Berkshire-handler has his eye on the Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh next weekend.

But with a 14-day quarantine greeting anyone making the trip to Ireland, Morrison has been forced into a back-up plan.

He told Sun Racing: “We’re planning on running him in the Tattersalls Gold Cup in Ireland, but we’re a bit nervous about handing him over to someone else.

“At the moment you’d still need to quarantine for 14 days so that would rule out taking a jockey over and I wouldn’t want to send any stable staff.

“It’s a bit frustrating as the Irish seem to be able to come here for the sales and our races no problem and France have already got crowds in, but there we are.

“Ireland is Plan A, but we don’t know how likely it is we could get over. The races can be rough over there and I’d like to go over with some form of a team.

“It would be fine with a highly-raced gelding, but we know Telecaster and what he’d need.”

The Group 2 York Stakes over the same trip on the Knavesmire is the back-up for Morrison, with a potential King George shot not completely ruled out.

Morrison added: “They are meeting in Ireland to discuss some potential changes on Monday I believe.

“But we have the back-up at York for him, the Group 2 over ten furlongs and we’d have to run him there if we don’t hear more.

“We’ll also keep an eye on the King George as while it’s more unlikely, it could well cut up quite badly and you never know.

“He’s in the Arc long-term and that’s the dream for the minute. We’d have no problem going over a mile-and-a-half with him.

“It didn’t go to plan at Epsom last season but that was for different reasons.

“He’s not as powerful as the likes of Ghaiyyath and Enable, but looks more of stayer. His dam won over-a-mile-a-half but his brother [Al Suhail] won over a mile last week at Newmarket.”

Romsey – fifth in the 1000 Guineas – is back in full training after getting jarred up at Newmarket.

Morrison hopes to have her back on the track in the coming month.
