Graham Potter becomes Brighton manager after rubber stamping deal to replace Chris Hughton

GRAHAM POTTER is Brighton's new boss.

The Seagulls have rubber-stamped a deal after the 43-year-old told Swansea he wanted the move.

Swansea offered Potter a new contract which would have made him one of the best-paid managers in the Championship.

But he felt he could not reject a Premier League offer and Brighton are paying the Welsh club about £3million in compensation for Potter and his staff.

Swans No 2 Billy Reid, coach Bjorn Hamberg and head of recruitment Kyle Macaulay will join Potter at the Amex Stadium.

Solihull-born Potter boss joined the Welsh club last June from Swedish side Ostersunds.

And the Championship outfit were desperate for him to continue his rebuilding job at the Liberty Stadium.

Brighton axed Chris Hughton last Monday and immediately made Potter, 43, their No 1 choice.

Former Swansea midfielder Leon Britton is the bookies' early favourite to take over from Potter.

Swansea lost 16 first-team squad members last season but Potter steadied the club after they dropped out of the Prem.

They finished 10th in the Championship with fans hailing Potter's attractive style of play.
