Floyd Mayweather will make comeback in late 2020 as part of new deal with UFC chief Dana White – The Sun

FLOYD MAYWEATHER will make his fighting comeback in late 2020, Dana White has revealed.

The veteran boxer, 42, has been out of the ring since beating Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in December last year.

In August 2017 Mayweather extended his fighting record to 50-0 with victory over UFC superstar Conor McGregor.

And he is now set to work alongside UFC head honcho White ahead of a fight later this year.

The pair became close in 2019 and have been in talks for some time over a potential career in UFC for Mayweather.

Whether the American chooses to take up MMA or continue boxing remains to be seen.

But White claims Mayweather will be returning as a fighter rather than a promoter in 2020.

Speaking to ESPN, White confirmed: “We both started talking.

“The easiest way to explain it to you is Floyd and I both feel that we add value to each other, and we’re going to figure something out.

“Some things have to play out, and then I’m going to start talking to (Mayweather’s promoter Al) Hayman maybe this summer, and then I’ll have something for Floyd in the fall.

“[Mayweather’s plans?] Compete. The money is in Floyd competing.

“We can do some crossover stuff here, or we can do something in boxing.

“Our last experience, Floyd was actually pretty easy to deal with. Hayman is incredible to deal with.

“Floyd and I got a handshake deal at the basketball game, and we’ll get the rest figured out.

“I don’t love them (crossover fights, but) when the demand is there…

“I felt the demand for McGregor vs Mayweather, felt it, I knew it would be big, so we started talking.

“Then once I started to feel it, that’s when I started to take it serious, and I made an offer.

“It will be interesting to see if we start to see that kind of demand again with any kind of crossover fight.”
