Furious fans have slammed the Premier League’s decision to fine the breakaway Big Six a collective sum of just £22million as ‘laughable’ and ’embarrassing’.
Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham all secretly plotted the European Super League earlier this year before the project was brought down after mass protests from fans.
The six clubs avoided a point deduction for signing up to the plans and were instead fined just over £3.5m each – while they also agreed to cough up a further £25m and to a 30-point deduction if they try to leave the league again.

The punishment has been widely condemned with hundreds of fans claiming the Big Six got off lightly after an agreement with the Premier League was reached this morning.
Some of the other 14 Premier League clubs had been calling for immediate point deductions but the decision was made just to fine the them, with the money understood to be earmarked for grassroots, fan and community initiatives.
The six clubs also escaped a significant financial penalty from UEFA last month, being fined just £1.5m each.

Fans have been left angered by the news that the Premier League have handed out a similar punishment to that meted out by UEFA and were quick to point out how meagre the fines are to the mega-wealthy Big Six while insisting that it is not suitable retribution for trying to ‘destroy’ the football pyramid.
‘£3.5m fines to each club. They won’t even notice that coming out of their banks. Laughable,’ one fan wrote on Twitter.
A second person said: ‘Absolutely pathetic punishment and never expected anything less. The fines should have been heavier, people are forgetting they signed an agreement to join this breakaway league which is against the laws and rules.’
‘F****** pathetic,’ a third person responded.
While another added: ‘If they try it again, they could be deducted a million points and it wouldn’t make a difference – because they wouldn’t be here.
‘Absolute farce. This league governs itself and is there to suit these six teams. It’s a franchise league already in all but name.’
Talks had been ongoing for some time before a deal with the Premier League was made today, which swerves the need for a disciplinary process.
As well as their fine from UEFA, the Big Six also agreed to have five per cent of the revenue they would have banked from UEFA club competitions for one season withheld for their part in the European Super League plans.
