‘F—k’ and ‘sorry’: The new sounds of a baseball season

This won’t be the last “f–k” of the baseball season.

Astros outfielder Josh Reddick screamed the curse in anger after popping out during his team’s 4-2, 13-inning loss to the Dodgers on Wednesday night. The weak hack came in the fourth inning of another frustrating defeat for Houston, a night after tempers erupted after Dodgers reliever Joe Kelly threw at Alex Bregman and mocked Carlos Correa following a strike out.

The amplifying of grunts and curses will be one of the consequences of teams playing in empty ballparks due to the coronavirus pandemic. On the Dodgers broadcast, play-by-play man Joe Davis offered a what-can-you-do-about-it “sorry” after Reddick’s explosion.

Reddick is 4-for-22 at the plate through six games this season.
