Do away goals count double in Carabao Cup semi-finals, and is extra time played if matches are level?

MANCHESTER UNITED welcome local rivals City in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.

Pep Guardiola and co are on course to win the title for a third year in a row.

And they could put the tie all but out of sight for Man Utd when they head to Old Trafford

If it is a draw, do away goals count and is extra time played?

For the first time since 1980, the away goals rule will NOT apply in the League Cup semi-finals.

In addition, ties will now go straight to penalties if the scores remain level after two legs.

Regulation 14.5 of the tournament states: “In the Semi-Final ties, if the aggregate score is level at the end of the second game no extra time shall be played and the tie shall be decided by the taking of kicks from the penalty mark in accordance with procedures as approved by IFAB.”

First legs

Tuesday, January 7: Manchester United vs Manchester City (8pm)

Wednesday, January 8: Leicester City vs Aston Villa (8pm)

Second legs

Tuesday, January 28: Aston Villa vs Leicester City (7.45pm)

Wednesday, January 29: Manchester City vs Manchester United (7.45pm)
