DJ LeMahieu’s list of MLB free agency suitors may be growing

The list of suitors for DJ LeMahieu could be growing.

The Yankees are already known to have competition for the reigning AL batting champion from the Mets and Blue Jays, and now the Dodgers and Astros could be entering the mix as well, according to baseball insider Ken Rosenthal.

In a story for The Athletic, Rosenthal reports that if the Dodgers move on from infielder Justin Turner, a free agent, LeMahieu could be a target.

The Astros, according to Rosenthal, have begun to shop shortstop Carlos Correa around. If Correa does get moved, it would open up an infield spot with Alex Bregman flipping to shortstop. That said, the Astros are not likely to sign anyone that received a qualifying offer such as LeMahieu, because they don’t want to lose a draft pick.

The Post’s Ken Davidoff reported that LeMahieu’s desire to remain in New York is such that the Mets are second to the Yankees on his wish list. LeMahieu, 32, was an AL MVP finalist after posting a slash line of .364/.421/.590 with 10 home runs and 27 RBIs in 50 games during the shortened 2020 MLB season.
