Darts legend Peter Wright beat illness – and Luke Humphries – thanks to beans on toast – The Sun

PETER WRIGHT went from his sick bed to the trebles bed — thanks to good old beans on toast.

Snakebite slept just two hours after his last-16 victory over Jeffrey de Zwaan on Saturday, having almost collapsed on the oche from lack of energy.

Yet the Scot, 49, beat his festive bug and dumped rising star Luke Humphries 5-3 to reach his third world semi-final.

Wright, who tinkered with his darts, said: “I had a terrible night’s sleep. The beds at the Holiday Inn are a bit hard.

“But I had beans on toast, which did the job. I will sleep well after this.

“I respect Luke — but you have to be ruthless.

“The longer the format goes, I’ll be the favourite.

“I can do a lot more than that. I just don’t want to show too much.”

Berkshire’s Humphries, 24, said: “No excuses, he was the superior player.

“It hurts that I have lost — but I didn’t bottle it.

“If Peter sticks to one set of darts, he could be one of the greats — he has a huge chance of being world champion.”
