Conor McGregor vs Jorge Masvidal would be biggest fight in UFC says White, as he hints at comeback for Notorious

DANA WHITE believes a clash between Jorge Masvidal and Conor McGregor could be the biggest in UFC history should the welterweight title contender beat Kamaru Usman tonight.

The American fighter stepped in to take on current champion Kamaru Usman at UFC 251 after Gilbert Burns pulled out following a positive coronavirus test.

Masvidal, who’s better known by his Gamebred nickname, clocked up the fastest knockout in UFC history in July last year.

The 35-year-old stopped Ben Askren in five seconds with a brutal flying-knee move during their UFC 239 fight.

White reckons Usman and Masvidal’s upcoming bout in Abu Dhabi this evening is “trending higher” than a McGregor fight.

And the outspoken UFC chief compared its popularity to the epic bruising encounter between McGregor and Khabib which the Irishman lost via a chokehold submission in October 2018.

When asked at a press event if a Masvidal and McGregor fight could be the biggest in UFC history White replied that “it could be.”

The 50-year-old UFC president said: “This thing is trending off the charts. This thing is trending higher than a Conor McGregor fight.

“The only thing this fight is comparable to is Conor-Khabib.

McGregor, recently retired from the sport claiming to be “bored”

But White believes the former featherweight and light champion, who’s 31, will make a return.

White added: “I wouldn’t be surprised if he came out and wanted to fight somebody next year after all these different fights play out."
