CONOR McGREGOR has been called out for a historic 176.37lbs catchweight super-fight by UFC legend Anderson Silva.
It comes after The Notorious named the Brazilian middleweight icon as the Greatest Of All Time on Twitter.
And Silva, who is on a two-fight losing streak and has not fought since May last year, challenged 31-year-old McGregor to test their "martial skills" against each other.
He wrote on Instagram: “I have a huge admiration for the great athlete that Conor is and I believe this superfight would be something historic for the sport, neither of us has anything else to prove.
“I believe UFC and (MMA) fans would like to watch this great martial spectacle, testing my martial skills against him would be fantastic.”
McGregor, a former featherweight and lightweight champion, has never fought higher than the 170lb welterweight limit.
Meanwhile Silva has predominately campaigned in the 185lb middleweight division while having three light-heavyweight fights.
But McGregor appears to be momentarily frozen out of the lightweight picture, with Justin Gaethje due to unify his interim title against champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
The Notorious – who won his comeback bout at welterweight in January – then looked to have turned his attention to 170lb king Kamaru Usman.
But with McGregor in line to face the winner between unbeaten Khabib and Gaethje, 45-year-old Silva has taken the opportunity to offer the Irish southpaw a wildcard option while he waits.
And it is not the first time the fight has been discussed with both men confirming their interest in facing each other in the past.
After Silva lost to Israel Adesanya, McGregor tweeted in February: “Anderson is one crafty, crafty Martial Artist.
“You only develop these methods through years of hard fought experience.
“Phenomenal performance. The crafty veteran. Big respect always. It would be an honor!”
