The Winter Olympics are now in full swing, with athletes setting their sights on shining on the biggest stage.

On Sunday, we certainly saw an example of the latter emotion in a women’s ice hockey match between China and Japan.

Yu Baiwei collided with the goalpost in a very painful-looking incident on Sunday

In the final period of the game, with the score locked at 1-1, Japan burst forward looking to take the lead.

A couple of Chinese defenders desperately tried to get back to prevent their team going behind, including Yu Baiwei.

Unfortunately for the 30-year-old, she lost her footing as she closed in on her own goal, and she started to slide towards the posts.

On and one she went, crashing straight into the upright, leaving viewers wincing at her misfortune.

Luckily, she was able to get back to her feet, and appeared reasonably unharmed by the incident, while Japan also missed their chance to score.

However, with Baiwei smashing into a goalpost and assistant captain Zhang Mengying being taking off on a stretcher in the first period with what looked like a serious injury, this was a victory that came at a cost.
