Chester Cup and ITV racing tips: Templegate's race-by-race guide to final day of Boodles Festival

THE sun is (finally) shining and it promises to be a blinding day of racing at Chester.

The big one, the Chester Cup, is off at 2.45pm – but there is a whole day of brilliant action on ITV4.

Here, SunSport's Templegate takes you through each of the races and reveals his top picks. Good luck!

FALCON EIGHT can fly in the Chester Cup (2.45, nap).

Dermot Weld wouldn’t send him over without a chance and he has gone well in Group 1 company over a marathon trip.

Read on for my other top tips.

1.45 Chester

REVICH loves it here with three wins and he’ll be spot on after a solid fourth in good company at Newbury last month. He’s on a fair weight and has the perfect draw. Ejtilaab is wide but shaped nicely in a close third at Musselburgh and can run well. Ascension was midfield in the Lincoln and will be fitter for it. He is best over this trip and likes some cut.

2.00 Market Rasen

LARKBARROW LAD was a solid third at Newbury last time when one mistake proved costly. He’s down the weights and sees out this trip well. Forgot To Ask scored at Plumpton last time and rarely finishes out of the frame. As You Like showed promise at Southwell and could end his losing run with a repeat of that.

2.15 Chester

ARMORY held his own in Group 1 company last season with a good third in the Irish Champion Stakes before going close in the Cox Plate in Australia. This trip is ideal, he’ll like the ground and has scope to improve. Bangkok won well at Lingfield and is another who relishes this distance. Sangarius won the 2019 Hampton Court at Royal Ascot but has run just twice since, including an AW win in December. He has more to come.

2.45 Chester

FALCON EIGHT represents a world-class team in Dermot Weld and Frankie Dettori. He has few miles on the clock in recent years but has shown his best over marathon trips. He was a good fifth in the Group 1 Cadran at Longchamp and has a Sandown Listed win on his CV. Weld will have him ready after a long break and he can go close. The Grand Visir was second in the Queen Alexandra at Royal Ascot and will like this ground. He’s a threat while Cardano went down in a head-bobber on his turf return and has more to offer. Not So Sleepy has been flying over hurdles and likes it here.

3.15 Chester

BRIAN THE SNAIL was in good form this winter and went close at AW finals day last time. He has a decent draw and will be right there. King’s Lynn showed promise when a close-up third at Newbury last month and has more to offer. El Astronaute goes well here and won first time out last season.

3.45 Chester

RESTORER ended last season with a head-bobbing win here ahead of Lawn Ranger. He can confirm that form but they both have a live chance. Lunar Jet has Franny Norton on board and needed his comeback at Newcastle. More rain would help as he likes it soft. Fox Tal drops in class and has a chance over his best trip.
