Cheltenham November Meeting tips: Templegate reveals Glenfarclas Cross-Country Chase selection

Cheltenham November Meeting tips: Templegate Glenfarclas Cross-Country Chase tips

GO with the Flos in the Glenfarclas Cross-Country Chase (2.55 Cheltenham).

BALKO DES FLOS went close in the Grand National so is blessed with enough staying power for this challenge.

He jumped well at Aintree so can put his unseating on debut over this course at the Festival behind him. That sighter will have helped and in-form Rachael Blackmore is on board.

Back On The Lash had a quiet comeback over the conventional fences here last time and will be fitter than a butcher’s dog. He progressed nicely last season and looks ahead of the handicapper.

Diesel D’Allier won this race two years ago and is back on debut for a new trainer. His liking for this unique track puts him right in the hunt.

Potters Corner was third in this 12 months ago and has an each-way shout.

BALKO DES FLOS 5

DES res. Was a cracking second in the Grand National on last chase start and had a quiet spin over hurdles last month for fitness. Was fancied for the Festival cross-country but unseated at the cheese wedges. If he’s got over that experience he can have a big say under Rachael Blackmore.

TALKISCHEAP 3

ALL Talk. Was high-class in his prime but has largely struggled for a while with three pulled-ups from his past four runs. One of those was the Grand National. Won the Bet365 Chase in 2019 so staying won’t be an issue but he needs this unique course to rekindle his old sparkle. His best form would be ahead of these rivals.

FREEWHEELIN DYLAN 3

FREE and easy. Won the Irish Grand National in April before a good run in solid company at Punchestown in May. He struggled a little off this much higher mark when held at Kilbeggan in July and he’s still 10lb higher than his Fairyhouse success. He stays and jumps well so has each-way prospects.

ALPHA DES OBEAUX 3

ALPHA male. Hard to believe he’s not won since 2018 but he hasn’t even come close on seven outings in 2021. He was a distant fourth in the Festival version of this race before jumping round the Grand National in midfield. He’s likely to finish and is coming right down the weights but needs to show a lot more than lately.

POTTERS CORNER 3

POTT a profit. Won the Welsh National in 2019 and will relish this stamina test, although softer ground would be ideal. He’s been modest so far this year when pulling up in the Grand National before a rusty comeback effort over the conventional fences at Aintree last month. He was third in this race last year and is a whopping 11lb lower so could make his presence felt.

BACK ON THE LASH 4

CASH for Lash. Has solid form over fences at a minor level and looked in need of the run after a break here last time. Stepping up in trip will help and he has more to offer as a chaser. He’s on a fair mark and isn’t dismissed if he takes to this challenge.

PLAN OF ATTACK 3

CUNNING Plan. He’s better than his form figures suggest and he was going well in this year’s Kim Muir here before a late fall. He’s been below par twice since then, which is a worry, but he stays and usually jumps well enough.

DIESEL D’ALLIER 4

DIESEL motors. He won this in 2019 before a fair fourth in the Festival version. He’s been hit and miss in France for a while but we know he likes this course and he has a nice low weight on this debut for new connections.

VOLCANO 2

CANO caned. Will be fit from a spin over hurdles last month and he won a couple of minor chases in testing ground last season. This is a fair hike in class so he needs to improve and more rain would help.

FOX PRO 1

PRO an amateur. He’s not the soundest jumper and was well beaten on comeback in minor company at Hereford last time. He stays well but needs a big step forward against these rivals.

SINGING BANJO 2

BANJO strung out. He was a pretty lucky winner of the big La Touche Cup cross-country race in Ireland this year but followed up nicely at Wexford last time. He should handle this challenge well but takes on stronger opposition today.

FRIENDS DON’T ASK 1

JUST don’t. He has fair form at lower levels but put in a shocking display at Wincanton last month. His best efforts have come on quick ground and he doesn’t look up to this.

SIGURD 1

SIG gone out. Takes a major step up in class here on the back of a modest comeback run at Wetherby. Looks out of his depth.
