Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has no plans to move N'Golo Kante back to more defensive role

Sarri also ditched former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 formation in favour of a 4-3-3 set up.

Under Conte, Kante was deployed as a defensive midfielder sitting in front of Chelsea’s back line, with the Frenchman’s agility and awareness complimenting the role.

However, Kante, 27, has found himself further afield this season as Jorginho is the new man in front of the back four.

For all Jorginho’s passing ability, the Italian has been exposed as defensively weak – but Sarri is not willing to reinstate Kante as the holding midfielder.

Sarri said: "We have a squad for this kind of football – if you buy Jorginho and have [Cesc] Fabregas, then I think you have to play 4-3-3.

"If you play 4-3-3 in my style of football, then the central midfielder is a very technical player. Jorginho is very fast in the mind.

"He is able to play one touch or two touch. Fabregas also is technically really very good.

"I think that Kante in my style of football has to play [further forward].

"I can understand that somebody might think something different but if you think to my football, you have to say that I am right."

Last week Chelsea handed champions Manchester City their first loss of the season after a 2-0 home win, with Kante scoring the opener.

And talking ahead of their visit to Brighton today, Sarri has urged his side to replicate the ‘motivation and determination’ that they showcased against City last week.

Sarri added: "We need to confirm our motivation and determination like we showed in the last match.

"We need these qualities with continuity because every match is three points.

"We need to improve, improve a lot. I agree this match for us is really very important.

"Maybe it is the most important in this season at this moment."
