Cech blasts Arsenal as he astonishingly admits they wouldn’t have scored vs BATE Borisov if they played 'for hours'

The 36-year-old admits his side would not have scored even if the game lasted "another couple of hours".

Arsenal narrowly lost to the Belarusian minnows after recording only two shots on target – despite having 67 per cent possession.

The defeat seems even more bizarre as BATE – who celebrated their historic result at Burger King – had never won a knock-out game in European football before beating Unai Emery's men.

And Cech has slammed his team-mates' inefficiency in front of the opposition's goal, but believes the result can be overturned in the second leg of the tie.

He said: "Yesterday it was one of those games where if we played for another couple of hours probably we wouldn't have scored.

Playmaker Mesut Ozil missed the clash due to illness, sitting out his 20th game of the season, as Aaron Ramsey was also unavailable because of a knee problem.

But Cech thinks the Gunners did not lack creativity and had enough chances to secure a win.

Cech added: "We had enough chances to win the game but we didn't.

In a further blow, Arsenal will have to look for goals without their hitman Alexandre Lacazette, who is illegible to play following the red card he received for elbowing Aleksandar Filipovic on Thursday .
