Paul Goldschmidt is the newest member of the St. Louis Cardinals.
The slugging All-Star first baseman was traded from the Arizona Diamondbacks to the St. Louis in exchange for catcher Carson Kelly, right-handed pitcher Luke Weaver, infielder Andrew Young and the Cardinals’ Competitive Balance Round B selection in the 2019 MLB draft.
The teams announced the deal Wednesday.
Goldschmidt, a 31-year-old righty hitter, heads to St. Louis after eight years in the majors, totaling 209 homers and 710 RBIs in 1,092 games, all with the Diamondbacks, to go with a .297 batting average. His resume includes six All-Star Games, three Gold Gloves and four Silver Slugger awards.
