Bruins’ David Backes takes skate to the face, returns for next period
Boston Bruins forward David Backes' run of bad luck continued in an ugly way Tuesday night when he was cut in the face by a skate late in the first period.
But showing how tough hockey players are, he returned to take the opening faceoff of the second period.
Backes was battling with Arizona's Oliver Ekman-Larsson near the Coyotes net with less than four minutes left in the period when the defenseman lost his balance and his skate came up and hit Backes under the visor.
He fell, got up quickly and rushed to the dressing room with his hand to the face as blood seeped down.
