Brentford 2 Aston Villa 1: Mads Roerslev fires in late winner as Bees turn game around after Ings' opener

MADS ROERSLEV scored his first ever goal in professional football as Brentford came from behind to beat Villa.

The 22-year-old defender hammered home at the second attempt after Villa keeper Emiliano Martinez had blocked the Dane's initial shot.

Bees boss Thomas Frank had told his players they needed to show more bravery in their performances after a succession of three straight defeats.

But what he could really have done with was giving them a loud wake up call as they looked asleep 42 minutes into this match.

A sensational 360 degree spin to fool Christian Norgaardand followed by a perfectly-weighted pass from Emiliano Buendia set up Danny Ings for a 15th minute opener.

Ings produced a neat finish past Alvaro Fernandez for his first goal under Villa boss Steven Gerrard.

The visitors looked comfortable as John McGinn squandered a couple of chances while Martinez did not have a save to make.

But all that changed against the run of play when Yoane Wissa pulled the Bees level just before the break.

Roerslev picked out the pass and Wissa curled in with his left foot leaving Gerrard staring at the skies in disbelief.

Pontus Jansson then headed wide when he should have hit the target as Brentford finished the half with a flourish.

But they were dealt a blow as both Sergi Canos and Mathias Jensen limped off with injuries just as Villa started playing their way back into this game.

However, Brentford proved dangerous on the break as Martinez pulled off a stunning full-stretch save to deny Frank Onyeka.

Though the Argentina international Martinez was beaten at the second attempt by Roerslev with just seven minutes remaining.

Ings was denied late on as Villa pressed for a deserved equaliser but Brentford clung on for their sixth win of the season.
