Bodexpress races 2019 Preakness Stakes without jockey: ‘It’s disappointing’

He got off his high horse — literally.

Legendary jockey John Velazquez was thrown off his horse, Bodexpress, right out of the gate of the 2019 Preakness Stakes on Saturday in Baltimore, Md.

Bodexpress managed to run the majority of the track, free of a jockey, before being corralled to the side by an official before the horse could cross the finish line. War of Will ended up winning the 144th edition of the Preakness.

“He wasn’t behaving, not standing still in the gate,” Velazquez told NBC after the race. “It’s disappointing.”

Velazquez, sporting a sad face, said he was not hurt.
