Aston Villa plot last-minute Lucas Moura transfer swoop as Steven Gerrard targets Tottenham star to bolster attack | The Sun

STRUGGLING Aston Villa are reportedly considering a deadline day swoop for Tottenham winger Lucas Moura.

Villa boss Steven Gerrard is on the lookout for reinforcements as the pressure mounts on him after a run of four defeats in five games.

And the club are interested in out of favour Spurs man Moura, according to the Telegraph.

The 30-year-old has played just 12 minutes of Premier League football this season but missed the 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest due to injury.

Villa are said to be hoping Moura becomes available if Tottenham secure a late move for Leeds winger Daniel James.

Spurs are said to be in talks with Leeds over a potential loan deal for the ex-Manchester United man.

His potential arrival would then open the door for Moura to depart.

Villa have endured a miserable start to the campaign, winning just one of five games so far.

Gerrard has made five new additions this summer, as well as making Philippe Coutinho's loan move permanent, and is said to be considering a sixth in Moura.

At £26million Diego Carlos is their biggest buy of the window, but the Brazilian defender is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after rupturing his Achilles tendon in the second game of the season.
