Ashley Young is Man Utd's worst ever captain and right-back, claims Chris Sutton

ASHLEY YOUNG is Manchester United's worst ever captain and right-back, according to Chris Sutton.

The 33-year-old has been slated for his disastrous display during the Champions League defeat to Barcelona on Wednesday.

"The worst ever Man Utd captain and the worst ever Man Utd rightback. Bang."

Robbie Savage questioned whether Young is worst ever player to wear the armband for United on Saturday Morning Savage.

A number of fans in the audience jeered before TV star Jeff Brazier said: "He's no [Sir Bobby] Charlton, [Denis] Law, [Steve] Bruce is he?

"But he can still be a good captain. You don't have to be a worldie player."

After a short debate, Sutton belted out: "Let's get right it Rob, he's the worst ever United captain and the worst ever United right-back."

The clip quickly did the rounds on social media and a number of fans appeared to agree with the one-cap England international.

One replied: "Horrible times when I agree with @chris_sutton73."

Another added: "He's not wrong. Been a solid player. Not good enough to play now, let alone be captain. Now Man Utd need an actual right-back."

Young was slated by United fans for wasting possession continuously during Wednesday's defeat to Barcelona.

The 33-year-old gave the ball away 30 times against Lionel Messi and co – meaning he lost possession once every three minutes on average.

And he failed to complete a single cross from 11 attempts down the right wing.
