Arsenal XI of deadwood and contract rebels Emery has cleared out this summer, raising £48m and saving £1m-a-week in wages – The Sun

ARSENAL have an entire starting XI of players they got rid of this summer – raising £48million and saving more than £1million-a-WEEK in wages.

From £40,000-a-week David Ospina in goal to £125,000-a-week Danny Welbeck up top, Unai Emery has ruthlessly shorn his squad.

That allowed the Gunners boss to open the cheque book for club-record £72million Nicolas Pepe as well as William Saliba and Kieran Tierney.

Ospina joined Napoli on a permanent transfer following a season on loan with the Serie A side.

He was joined out the door by Stephan Lichtsteiner – branded the "worst signing in history" by irate fans – whose move to FC Augsburg saved Arsenal £75,000-a-week.

Centre-half Krystian Bielik (£25,000-a-week) joined Derby for around £10m and ex-captain Laurent Koscielny (£90,000-a-week) finally forced through his move to Bordeaux for £4.6m.

Carl Jenkinson (£45,000-a-week) went to Nottingham Forest in the Championship.

Nacho Monreal (£70,000-a-week) joined Real Sociedad on a two-year deal after nearly seven years in North London and Alex Iwobi (£50,000-a-week) went to Everton for £38m.
