Arsenal want club legend Overmars as director of football

Unai Emery has changed the club's fortunes since taking the reins, but the club are all too aware of their need to solve their recruitment problems.

Overmars is currently working for Ajax in the role of director of football and has had seven solid years with the Dutch club.

He helped the club develop youth talent and recruited the likes of Christian Eriksen, Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez who all departed for Tottenham.

According to the Mirror, the Gunners want to bring their former winger on board in order to freshen things up.

Sven Mislintat is the current head of recruitment at Arsenal, but has been overlooked for the director role.

Mislintat's main claim to fame since arriving last season was bringing bring Pierre-Emerick Aubameyand on board.

The Gabon international has got off to a flying start at the Emirates, scoring 16 goals across all competitions,  but Mislintat's other recruits haven't fared as well.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Konstantinos Mavropanos started their life at Arsenal well, but haven't proven themselves to Emery or fans.

They need to overhaul their recruitment process, which has to be carried out on a tight budget and they believe Overmars could be their saving grace.

Overmars played for Arsenal between 1997 and 200 and enjoyed success in North London.

He won the Premier League and FA double in '98 before moving to Barcelona.

His current contract with the Dutch side isn't set to expire until 2020, but Overmars reportedly thinks a move to the Emirates could be good for his career.
