ARSENAL have announced that they are releasing five players and given an update on Eddie Nketiah's contract situation.

Nketiah, 23, is on the release list posted by the club but they added a contract has been offered to him with negotiations ongoing.

Alexandre Lacazette has returned to Lyon after five years at the Emirates and is one of the five to go.

The Frenchman made 206 appearances for the club scoring 71 goals.

On his departure, Lacazette thanked Arsenal saying: "It’s been an honour to wear the jersey. Once a gunner, Always a Gunner."

It leaves Mikel Arteta's side with no recognised strikers in the squad currently.

He scored 10 goals in all competitions as the Gunners narrowly missed out on Champions League qualification.

The news of a possible extension should not come as a surprise after the club accidently leaked that he is staying for next season.
