Angle’s wife says WrestleMania farewell match with Corbin is 'very' underwhelming

KURT ANGLE has defended naming Baron Corbin as opponent for his retirement match after a fierce response for the WWE Universe.

And even the 50-year-old’s wife got involved before quickly deleting her tweet.

BACKLASH

The Hall of Famer had been linked with a mouth-watering WrestleMania 35 showdown with fellow icons John Cena or Undertaker since he revealed he was calling time on his in-ring career.

Angle, an Olympic gold medal winner, finally confirmed who his final foe would be on last night’s Monday Night Raw… and it was immediately met with negative feedback.

Legendary announcer Jim Ross was one of the first to slam it as “underwhelming”.

And he was not the only one to feel that way as Angle’s wife Giovanna responded “Very” to Good Ol’ JR’s tweet.

During Angle’s segment on Raw, she also tweeted “The fans chanting We want Cena…..we feel ya” as she appeared to show exactly who she wanted to see the former world champion bow out against.

ANGLE'S DEFENCE

However, our “Olympic Hero” tried to defend the match as he took to Instagram and asked the haters to support him despite it not being a popular choice.

Angle wrote: “My farewell match will be against Baron Corbin at Wrestlemania. I realize it’s not the most popular decision from a fan’s perspective… BUT I will make Corbin tap out on the biggest stage of them all…. and I Hope you can share this moment/accomplishment with me on April 7th. Baron is a legit tough guy. It won’t be easy but it never is.”

WIFE'S BACKTRACK

Giovanna has now deleted her tweets but did post an updated one attempting to explain her earlier messages.

She wrote: “Guys, it’s pro wrestling. Its like watching a movie. I’m no way upset with my husband wrestling Corbin. Lol I love having fun with yall. But It is really nice to see how many fans support Kurt on how he should be sent off.”

Angle joined WWE in 1999 after winning the gold medal in the freestyle Olympic games three years earlier.

He quickly became a star in the sport entertainment industry and debuted on the main roster after just one-year of developmental training.

Angle won the WWE title on six occasions before leaving the company in 2006 to embark on a ten-year stretch with TNA.

But he returned to WWE in 2017 after being inducted in to the Hall of Fame and was named as Raw’s general manager.

But Corbin took over the role towards the latter stages of 2018, leading to a feud that will now be resolved with the hugely-unpopular match Showcase of the Immortals.
