Alvaro Morata's injury 'not serious', Maurizio Sarri confirms leaving Chelsea fans in despair

However, they weren't too impressed when Maurizio Sarri confirmed that it didn't seem like a 'serious injury', and several fans took to social media to complain.

During Chelsea's clash with the Hungarians, the Spanish international was called to lead the line but his evening came to a premature end when he limped off just before the break.

Morata was replaced by Olivier Giroud, who managed to find his name on the score sheet- much to the delight of the Chelsea fans who claimed it was easier to score once Morata had left the field.

But when Sarri confirmed that he did not believe that the misfiring frontman's injury was serious, fans voiced their concerns that he would be back and missing sitters sooner than expected.

Speaking after the game, Sarri said: "The first impression of the doctor is maybe it is not a serious injury.

"But, of course, with this situation we have to wait and wait until tomorrow I think to see if the situation is serious,"

News of a striker going off injured just before a tough run of games would normally prompt a flurry of worried tweets, but that wasn't the case for the Chelsea faithful this evening.

Twitter user @Anton_Kay wrote: "Morta injured! Good news."

One even described it as an early present from Santa as @KingDika_ said: "Morata injured?… My Christmas is made already."

While many Chelsea fans condemned others for wishing ill-health on the forward, others felt it was a set-back too far and they should just sell their struggling striker.

Even Jamie Carragher had claimed that the West London side needed to cut their losses and flog Morata, when he missed a sitter against Fulham.
