Alfredo Morelos transfer news: Aston Villa jump to front of queue for Rangers ace as he nears injury return | The Sun

ALFREDO MORELOS' Rangers future is subject of much speculation in every transfer window.

But as he enters the final year of his Ibrox contract, that is only going to intensify.

And Aston Villa appear to be at the front of the queue to sign the Colombian star should Gers look to cash in on him this window.

Paddy Power make the Villans 3/1 favourites to sign Morelos in this transfer window.

Boss Steven Gerrard knows the 26-year-old extremely well from their time together in Glasgow and was hailed for getting through to his star striker after a string of disciplinary issues.

Morelos has been out of action since March – missing the club's latter stages in Europe and Scottish Cup win – with injury having been sent home early from international duty with Colombia.

Light Blues gaffer Giovanni van Bronckhorst was handed a boost this week with the news Morelos is set to return 'in the coming weeks'.

Antonio Colak was recently brought in from PAOK to lead the line but Kemar Roofe is also toiling with injury issues leaving the Dutch boss short in the forward areas.

That means Van Bronckhorst is reluctant to lose the club's all-time record scorer in Europe, particularly with the recent club record fee received for Calvin Bassey.

But Villa have moved ahead of Sevilla in the betting at 3/1 to sign Morelos, with the Spaniards recently linked with a move for him.

They are still in the mix though at 4/1, with La Liga rivals Villarreal at 6/1.

A move to England has often been mooted for Morelos and Crystal Palace (15/2), Everton (11/1), Newcastle (11/1) and Leicester (14/1) are next in the betting.

Brighton are 16/1 with an unlikely but potentially sensational switch to the Bernabeu and Real Madrid at the same odds.
