The Court of Arbitration for Sport has halved the Blues' transfer ban from two windows to one, meaning that they are now free to sign players again.

And now they are in the market for a talented winger, with Wilfried Zaha and Ousmane Dembele among their targets.

  • EXCLUSIVE by Marc Mayo: CHELSEA’S success in finally giving their academy prospects a first-team chance is a long time coming after years of ignoring rising stars, according to SEVEN-TIME loanee Kenneth Omeruo.

The Nigerian defender, 26, never made an appearance in a Blues shirt during a seven-year stay on the club’s books and feels their policy of farming out youngsters unfairly deprived them of a chance to shine.

Frank Lampard has earned many plaudits for successfully introducing Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, Fikayo Tomori and more into the first-team amid their recently-ended Fifa transfer ban.

But Omeruo doesn’t believe the current crop of youth players, while “fantastic”, are significantly better than the troop of loanees he was a part of before leaving for good in the summer.

He told SunSport: “They are there at the right time.

“For them it was a matter of chance and they came at the right time because any one of us who played, played very well.

“Kurt Zouma is doing well and he was from the same set [of loanees]. All the players Chelsea have had, have been quality players.”

  • CHELSEA have reportedly met with the agent of Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele with a view to signing him in January.

The Blues are buzzing after learning that their appeal against a transfer ban had been successful.

They are now free to bring players in when the transfer window re-opens in January.

And Dembele, who has had a mixed time of things since joining Barcelona from Borussia Dortmund for £138million, is believed to be on Chelsea's shopping list.

Spanish news-site Eldesmarque is reporting that Dembele's agent, Moussa Sissoko, has “met with executives from Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Manchester City”.

This has not gone down well with Barca, who are now keen to ship him out at the end of the season.

But with Chelsea now cleared to loosen the purse strings after Christmas, they could move in for a cut-price deal for the Frenchman.

  • CHELSEA fans are split over whether it is a good thing that their transfer ban has been lifted.

One supporter tweeted: ” WE’RE BUYING THE LEAGUE.”

Another commented: “We didn’t even need to sign players.”

A third added: “Buying Chilwell would complete our squad.”

While another said: “I hope they don't go back to their old ways. Lampard could be building something special.”

One added: “CAS have overturned Chelsea’s transfer ban but I want us to maintain this squad and we shouldn’t spend in January but wait till summer to get top notch players to compete for trophies in our second spell under Lampard!!!”

  • CHELSEA have been given the green light for a massive January spending spree – after sport’s ultimate court cut their transfer ban.

Fifa banned the Blues from making any signings for two windows in February.

But now the Court of Arbitration for Sport has ruled that Fifa punished Chelsea too severely and that a one window ban – served this summer – was sufficient.

That clears the way for Lampard to freshen up his squad in the winter window, although Uefa rules mean he can only register three new players for the knock-out stages of European competition.

The initial Fifa punishment followed a lengthy probe into the club’s policies on signing overseas youth players.

Chelsea were stunned when the ban was imposed and furious when it emerged their attempts to have the ban put on hold pending their initial appeal to Fifa had been rebuffed.

  • CHELSEA are reportedly ready to recall defender Jake Clarke-Salter from Birmingham.

The Telegraph claim they will recall him in January if his game time does not increase.

Clarke-Salter, 22, has featured in just five Championship games this season.

The report adds that other clubs are interested in the player and are willing to play him more.
