SIMON MIGNOLET has been advised by former Liverpool goalkeeper Chris Kirkland to leave in the summer.

He told talkSPORT:“Simon has got to sit down and decide what he really wants to do.

“He’s still got many years to go, I would be surprised if he didn’t want to go and play somewhere.

“That’s why I had to leave Wigan, because I wanted to go and play and I went to Sheffield Wednesday and played there.

” Only Simon will know what he wants to do, but I’d be surprised after playing for so many years and still being relatively young for a goalkeeper if he didn’t want more game time.

“It’s going to be so hard to walk away from Liverpool, with where they are at the minute, the way the club is, the way Jurgen has got everyone together and the fans.

“They are massively on the up and the sky’s the limit for Liverpool.

“So for Simon to walk away from that it’s got to be purely for his passion to go and start more games.”

FORMER Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has revealed he prefers James Milner to Lionel Messi due to his versatility.

The Dutch coach took aim at the 32-year-old Barcelona legend by claiming he had held the Spanish giants back from winning more Champions League finals.

He said: “I like Messi as an individual player. He is the best individual player in the world because his statistics are amazing.

“But why has he not won the Champions League since four years ago? Why? As a captain, you must ask yourself why the team does not win in Europe.”

Van Gaal urged Messi to look to Liverpool veteran Milner for inspiration.

He added: “In the final of the Champions League, Milner played as a defender and as a midfielder. It's great that he can offer that at 33.

“The forwards? Everyone plays for the team. [Mohamed] Salah, [Roberto] Firmino and [Sadio] Mane work very hard in defence because [Jurgen] Klopp wants to press.

“He saw the light a few months ago: he understood that pressing is not always the right thing to do. It depends on the conditions.”
