  • FORMER Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher has been running the rule over Manchester United's victory over Man City.

The game saw Marcus Rashford convert a penalty after a VAR review before City were denied a spot kick despite the ball striking Fred on the arm in the box.

Gallagher told Sky Sports both decisions were correct and praised the use of VAR during the entertaining derby.

The ex-official did, however, have reservations about the yellow card awarded to Andreas Pereira for a second half foul on Raheem Sterling.

He said: “I said on Saturday and I still say now, this is as close as you can get to not having a red card because there's no doubt it was a hack and it was a bit more than a trip wasn't it?

“It was reminiscent of three years ago with Granit Xhaka at Arsenal [straight red after a similar tackle on Modou Barrow].”

  • TURNS out United like a Manchester derby win around this time of year.

  • HE'S become one of Manchester United's best performers this season and it looks as though Scott McTominay's form has been rewarded with a new deal.

An exclusive report from the Sun reveals the 23-year-old is set to double his money and be given a £60,000-a-week contract.

The deal will keep the Scot at Old Trafford until 2025 and comes with the option of a 12-month extension.

McTominay has become an integral member of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Man United side this term and has scored three times in 18 outings.

His new contract comes less than a year after signing a deal which ties him with the club until 2023.
