1pm Arsenal news LIVE: West Ham build-up, Emery wanted trio in summer transfer window, Kovac ‘eyes Arsenal manager job’ – The Sun

THE hunt for Arsenal's new manager continues ahead of their Monday night clash with West Ham.

Unai Emery was dismissed over a week ago but Freddie Ljungberg will take temporary charge of the Gunners as they make the short journey to the London Stadium.

Yet, former Bayern Munich manager Niko Kovac is keen on the Emirates job, while the club's technical director Edu wants his old teammate Patrick Vieira in charge.

  • ARSENAL'S board overruled Unai Emery's request to sign Wilfired Zaha, Harry Maguire and Thomas Partey this summer.

Reports claim the Spanish boss was keen on all three players, but instead saw the Gunners hierarchy spend £130million on alternatives targets.

The Athletic says Emery submitted a list of targets which were ultimaely missed out on, with a lack of Champions League football reportedly proving to be a stumbling block.

Arsenal did make a £40million bid for Zaha during the last transfer window before eventually spending a club record £72million on Nicolas Pepe.

  • FREDDIE Ljungberg has not played defender Kieran Tierney due to a secret shoulder injury, according to reports.

The £25 million signing has made only 10 appearances for the Gunners since sealing his move from Celtic in the Summer.

He picked up a hip injury in September and only came on as a substitute in last Thursday's 2-1 defeat to Brighton.

Fans have been quick to question Ljungberg's reluctance to use Tierney, but the Athletic has now revealed the reasoning behind his absence from the Arsenal starting XI.

The Scot is said to be suffering from a shoulder problem which the club are eager to avoid aggravating.

  • NEARLY 450 Arsenal appearances and now 57 years under his belt.

  • IT LOOKS like Nicolas Pepe will be given a chance to impress with a starting berth against West Ham United tonight.

Having been left out of both of interim boss Freddie Ljungberg's starting XI so far, it is thought Pepe is in line to play on the right wing tonight.

Mesut Ozil is expected to return to his preferred No10 role as Joe Willock makes way.

  • THEY may not have been the best of friends during his tenure at Arsenal, but that didn't stop Unai Emery and Mesut Ozil sharing a goodbye.

Ozil was demoted to a bit-part role under Emery as the Spaniard often opted to play the likes of Lucas Torreira out of position rather than use Ozil.

Nonetheless, Ozil still took the chance to have a final meeting with Emery after his dismissal as the Athletic's David Ornstein reports.

Ornstein wrote: “Once the news was delivered to Emery by Arsenal’s executive team, it is understood all of the first-team squad present at the club’s London Colney training ground visited the Spaniard in his office — and that included Mesut Ozil, regardless of any previous differences between the pair.”
