Woman branded ‘life saver’ for her ice hack that keeps room cool during heatwave

There’s no two ways about it: it’s getting hot andtemperatures across Britaincould reach up to 36°C over the coming weeks, with afour-week heatwave predicted.

Thehigh temperatures could see July 2022 become the hottest monthin UK history, beating the 24-hour average of 17.8°C from July 2006, where daytime temperatures peaked at 36.2°C.

As the hot weather descends upon us, some nifty Brits have been sharing their top tips to stay cool, including one way to create an at-home air conditioning system.

TikTok userEmily Janeshared her clever hack where all that is needed is an ice pack and a fan.

She explained: “I have a hack that’s going to make you so much cooler. It’s going to make your room, your apartment, ten times cooler than what it is now and trust me, every little bit helps.

Emily explained that along with a fan, viewers should buy one thing: “You are going to buy a flexible ice blanket, they are also called ice sheets, they look like this.”

She added: “I bought this today, now we’re going to freeze it.

“Then what you are going to do is lie it over your fan, or if you have a tall one you can tape it around.

“Then you are going to turn your fan on and the cold air is going to blast over you and trust me, your apartment will be at least five degrees cooler.”

Many people were highly impressed with her hack, with one person saying: “Girl you are a life saver!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks so much!!!"

Another compared it to a similar hack: “Omg I have one of these! I’ve been hesitant to do the whole ice cubes in a bowl in front of your fan thing, so this is genius.”

Meanwhile a third commented: “You can also put these in your bed for about 30 mins before you go to sleep.”

And one more added: “Good idea thank you for this.”

Many fans state you shouldn’t directly cover the fan for safety reasons, so it’s probably best if you place ice packs close by instead.

Meanwhile, the majority of the country will experience warmer weather over the coming days, with just the odd shower expected in the north and northwest.

London and the south coast are reportedly set to see the highest temperatures.

A forecaster said: “July 17-31 has temperatures becoming warmer throughout. We may see very warm or hot temperatures, especially across the south, and high pressure may extend across the UK."

The warm weather comes just in time for the school holidays with many set to break up from school in the coming days.
