Why There's Nothing Wrong With Meghan Markle Wanting a Famous British Guy

We’ve all heard by now the story of how Meghan Markle and Prince Harry met. The couple was introduced by mutual friends and met up at a party in London. And the rest, as they say, is history.

But now, TV host Lizzie Cundy is coming out saying Meghan asked her to set her up with a “famous British man.” She reveals the two had this discussion three years before Harry and Meghan got together. So, does this confirm theories that Meghan has always been looking to climb the social ladder or is this completely normal behavior?

Meghan Markle was reportedly looking to have fun

Cundy revealed that she became friends with Meghan when she accompanied the future duchess to a charity event in 2013. She said the former Suits star asked her if she knew anybody famous, reportedly telling Cundy: “I’m single and I really love English men.”

Cundy knew a few men that were available and suggested newly single footballer Ashley Cole. Meghan asked if Cole had a reputation, but Cundy assured her that it didn’t matter since Meghan was just looking to have fun.

Cundy said that she and Meghan kept in touch after Meghan left London, but she was completely surprised when she found out Meghan was dating Prince Harry. She texted her surprise to Meghan, to which Meghan reportedly responded, “Yeah, I know. We’ll try to hook up.”

Meghan Markle ghosted Lizzie Cundy after she met Prince Harry

The TV host reports that after she texted Meghan, the two never connected. She wrote in her newly released autobiography that Meghan basically ghosted her once she started seeing the prince.

Followers of the royal family will argue this situation seems eerily familiar to the one which TV host Piers Morgan details. Morgan revealed he was close friends with the former actress, exchanging messages with her frequently and finally meeting up with her the same day that she met Prince Harry. He also claims Markle ghosted him after she met Harry.

Cundy has her theories as to why both of them lost touch with Meghan after she started dating Harry. Cundy speculates the future duchess was told to cut ties with anyone she befriended in the media.

Was Meghan Markle just “climbing the social ladder?”

Morgan has argued that Meghan has always been climbing the social ladder, and now she’s finally at the top. To him, Cundy’s story likely sounds like a confirmation to this theory.

However, it is not abnormal for friends to ask each other to hook them up with people they know. Nor is it uncommon for one friend to know what kind of person that friend would be interested in.

This is likely how Meghan ended up meeting Harry in the long run. We know the two met through a mutual friend, and there is a good chance that Meghan asked this friend to set her up. Whether Meghan asked for a British man, or the prince specifically, we’ll likely never know.

But we do know that her friend knew what Meghan was looking for. Before going on her first date, Meghan asked her friend, “Is he nice?” She told BBC: “Because if he wasn’t kind then it didn’t seem like it would make sense.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex celebrated their one-year wedding anniversary shortly after Meghan gave birth to the couple’s first son, Archie Harrison. And while some people may want to make something out of Meghan reportedly asking to be matched with a “famous British man,” the couple appears to be happy and committed to one another.

The couple did date for two years before getting married, so if there was any social climbing going on, Harry likely would have caught on. There’s nothing wrong with Meghan knowing what she wants and pursuing it. Being with someone who you like and are attracted to is important to making a relationship last.
